Skyscanner for Business + Hitlist: Opening up a World of Travel Inspiration through Browse Data

Since 2012, Skyscanner for Business has partnered with successful start-up mobile travel app, Hitlist. Through an API integration, Hitlist is able to combine Skyscanner’s powerful data technology with its own innovative platform, creating an inspirational trip planning tool.

Skyscanner for Business’s bespoke data and Hitlist’s pioneering and user-friendly platform work hand-in-hand by pulling data from the Skyscanner Browse Grid API to scan recent flight data and score flights via a proprietary algorithm that classifies each as ‘good’, ‘great’, or ‘spectacular’. Hitlist then displays selected information to users in the app based on their personal preferences and app activity. If Hitlist finds something really great during their data scan, they send a push notification to the user encouraging them to buy now.

Hitlist’s mission is to help users travel more for less by taking the friction out of booking travel. Their intelligent filters help customers find trips that suit their time, destination preferences and budget. Users can build travel lists manually or choose from recommended destinations. They can also see where their friends have been and get tips from the people they trust. Based on the lists users build up, Hitlist then uses Skyscanner’s API data to scan millions of fares and bring users the best itineraries helping them know the optimal time to travel.

We’ve always appreciated the fact that Skyscanner shows all the available flights, including the discount airlines. It’s the only comprehensive API we know and that is important, to provide our customers with the experience they want. The Skyscanner API allows us to differentiate from other inspirational/planning apps by offering real time pricing. The APIs are lightweight and easy to integrate with, and it’s our primary monetization model right now.

The future looks bright for Hitlist and the continued partnership; with plans to integrate the API more deeply into their booking process, Hitlist hopes to allow users to be able to filter their flights directly within the app.
